You apply to Wyndy in the app: questions about you, a background check, your subscription and a college check. Every sitter must be at least 18 and pass a background check.
Who can apply
These are the requirements every Wyndy sitter meets. The application checks each one, so have them in hand before you start.
- You're 18 or older.
- You have a driver's license and a Social Security Number.
- You have reliable transportation.
- You have at least a year of childcare experience.
Before you start
Have these ready before you start. The background check part takes less than 5 minutes.
- Your phone, to receive a sign-in code by text.
- Your Social Security Number and driver's license number.
- Your legal name and current mailing address.
- A clear, well-lit photo of your face.
- Your college .edu email address, or a college document such as an acceptance letter, college schedule or transcript.
Start your application
-
Download Wyndy and tap I'm a sitter.
It's on the first screen, under the option for parents. -
Enter your phone number and the code we text you.
Your phone number is how you sign in to Wyndy from then on. There's no password to remember. -
Swipe through the intro, then tap Apply now.
Already have a Wyndy sitter account? Tap I already have an account to sign in to it instead of starting over.
From here, most screens end with a Continue button. Each answer is saved when you tap it. The ⋯ menu at the top has Log Out if you need to stop.
About you
-
Enter your full name.
The screen asks "What's your full name?" with First Name and Last Name. -
Enter your email.
If the email already belongs to a Wyndy account, the app says "It looks like you already have an account. Please sign in." -
Tell us how you heard about Wyndy.
Pick one answer from the list. -
Enter your birthday.
If you're under 18, the app stops here with "You must be 18 to apply." If you typed it wrong, tap I entered the wrong birthday to fix it. -
Pick your years of paid babysitting experience.
Choose None yet, 1 year, 2 years or 3+ years. This shows on your profile as your experience. -
Pick your highest level of education.
Choose the one option that fits you best (see the table below).
| Education option | Pick it if |
|---|---|
| Currently Enrolled in College | You're a college student now. |
| Graduated from College | You've finished a degree. |
| Accepted to College (Starting Next Semester) | You've been admitted and haven't started yet. |
| Previously Attended College (Not Currently Enrolled) | You took college classes but aren't enrolled now. |
| Never Attended College | You haven't been to college. |
Your profile
-
Add a profile picture.
Tap Add a photo, pick Choose from Library or Take a Photo, frame it, then tap Use photo. Use a clear, friendly, well-lit headshot, because it's the first thing families see. -
Write your bio.
Describe yourself and your sitter experience. This appears on your profile, so write it for parents. -
Answer Why do you want to join Wyndy?
Briefly describe the jobs you're looking for and yourself. This answer is for the Wyndy team reviewing your application.
Background check
Every sitter on Wyndy is background checked. These five screens collect what the check needs and your consent to run it.
-
Read the Background Check screen.
It explains that you need a background check to finish applying. -
Enter your Legal Details.
Your Social Security Number (9 digits), your Driver's License Number, and the state that issued your license. This information is only used to run your background check. -
Acknowledge the FCRA Disclosure.
Read the document, then turn on I agree to confirm you received and read the Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. -
Acknowledge the Background Check Disclosure.
Read the document, then turn on I agree to confirm you received and read the Disclosure Regarding Background Investigation. -
Sign the Background Check Authorization.
Turn on Click here to sign to sign digitally and certify your information is correct. Turn on Send me a copy of my background check if you want a copy.
To see what the check covers, read Sitter background checks.
Your subscription
Next is the Start trial screen. Every sitter starts a subscription as part of the application: a free trial, then $19.99 a month, and you can cancel anytime.
-
Tap Continue on the trial screen.
Your App Store or Google Play account asks you to confirm. The line under the button tells you the date it will renew. -
Already subscribed? Tap Restore Purchases.
If you've subscribed before on this store account, this brings it back. If your subscription is already active, the app skips this screen.
See Sitter subscription for what it includes and how to cancel.
Legal name and address
-
Enter your Legal Name.
Use Legal First Name, Legal Middle Name and Legal Last Name exactly as they appear on your ID. Turn on No middle name if you don't have one. -
Enter your Current Mailing Address.
Search for your address, then add an Apt / Suite / Floor if you have one (it's optional).
Confirm your college
The Pick a confirmation method screen links you to your college. If your college is already on file, the app skips this step.
-
Tap Search Your College and pick it from the list.
You need to pick a college before you choose a method. -
Choose how to confirm it.
Pick Confirm .edu email (marked Instant) or Upload college document, then tap Continue.
| Method | What you do |
|---|---|
| Confirm .edu email | Enter your school email on the .edu Email Confirmation screen. We email you a 6-digit code; enter it on the next screen. |
| Upload college document | On College Document Upload, tap Upload Document and add an acceptance letter, college schedule or transcript. Verifying a document takes longer than the instant .edu email. |
| Skip | The app looks up your college enrollment records ("Verifying your college enrollment history"). If it finds you, pick the college to highlight on your profile. If it can't, you return to this screen to use one of the two methods above. |
Finish your details
-
Enter your graduation year.
Use your actual or expected year, for example 2027. -
Tap Continue on the review screen.
"Our team is reviewing your application" means your application is in. The last two screens add detail to your profile while you wait. -
Pick the ages you have experience with.
Select at least one: Infant (0 to 1), Toddler (1 to 4), Young Children (4 to 9) or Older Children (9 and up). -
Answer What duties are you comfortable with?
Select at least one. Options are grouped under Special Needs Experience and Pets, Overnights & Driving, and you can search them.
After you submit
The final screen confirms that our team is reviewing your application. On average, a review takes 2 to 3 business days, so check your email regularly for updates from our team.
Tap Edit My Profile to keep improving your profile while you wait. You can open the app and look around, but you can't apply to jobs until you're approved.
When you're approved
You get a "You're approved" notification: your Wyndy sitter account has been approved and you can start applying for jobs. The next time you open the app, it walks you through three quick screens.
- Welcome to the new Wyndy, then tap Get started.
- Update your profile photo? Keep your photo or add a better one, then tap Continue.
- Never miss a sitter update. Tap Allow notifications so job alerts reach you, or Not now.
If your application isn't approved
The app shows an Application Rejected screen with a button to contact Wyndy. Depending on your application, it either lists what every Wyndy sitter needs (18 or older, background checks passed, prior babysitting experience and a high-quality application), or tells you the next step.
If you started a subscription, cancel it to avoid future charges. The screen has Manage subscription for that.
Good to know
- Your application review looks at your childcare experience and your written answers, so take your time on the bio and on why you want to join.
- Once your college is confirmed, your profile shows it as College verified.
- Your bio, photo, ages and duties can all be changed later from your profile. See Your sitter profile.
- If your account is ever suspended, the app shows a screen with Contact Support instead of the Jobs tab.
Questions
How long does review take?
On average, 2 to 3 business days. Check your email for updates, and you'll get a notification when you're approved.
Do I need a .edu email?
No. You can upload a college document instead, or tap Skip and let the app look up your enrollment records.
Why does the application ask for my Social Security Number?
Your background check includes an identity and SSN trace, which confirms who you are and where you've lived. The number is only used to run your background check.
Can I apply if I'm 17?
No. Wyndy sitters need to be at least 18. You're welcome to apply the moment you turn 18.
Can I change my answers after I submit?
Your profile details, yes, from Me, then View Profile. For anything else, contact the Wyndy team from Me, then Help.
