Cancelling a job

How to cancel, when it's free, and what happens if you cancel late.

Updated Nov 3, 2026Reading time 4 min

On this page

You can cancel a job from the Jobs tab before it starts, and a booked job from its own page until its scheduled end. Cancelling is free when no sitter is booked yet, or when the job is 24 or more hours away. A booked job cancelled later than that, including after the start, costs $20, which goes to your sitter.

Cancel a job

The same steps work for a job that's only posted and for one with a booked sitter. The app only asks you to confirm a fee when one applies.

  1. Open the Jobs tab and find the job.

Booked jobs are under Upcoming (or Needs your attention if something is waiting on you). Jobs nobody is booked for yet are listed with your other posted jobs.
  2. Tap the ⋯ menu on the job card, then Cancel job.

You can also open the job and tap Cancel job, in red at the bottom of its page. Once the start time has passed, the card's menu no longer offers it, so open the job instead.
  3. Answer Are you sure you want to cancel this job?

Tap Yes, continue to go on, or Nevermind to keep the job.
  4. Add a note under Why do you need to cancel this job?

"Things come up, we get it. A quick note helps us support everyone." The note is optional; you can leave the box empty and carry on.
  5. Tap Cancel job, or Continue if there's a fee.

If the cancellation is free, the button says Cancel job and the job is cancelled straight away. If a fee applies, the button says Continue and takes you to one more screen.
  6. Review Confirm cancellation and tap Cancel job.

This screen only appears for late cancellations. It shows your sitter, the line "A $20 fee will be charged to your payment method to cover your sitter's time," and a Payment summary with the Cancellation fee of $20.

When you're done, the app takes you back to the Jobs tab. Your sitter is told the job was cancelled. Nevermind on any of these screens leaves the job exactly as it was.

When cancelling costs something

SituationWhat you payWho gets it
No sitter booked yet (at any time before the start)NothingNone
Sitter booked, 24 or more hours before the startNothingNone
Sitter booked, less than 24 hours before the start$20 cancellation feeYour sitter
You don't cancel, and your sitter arrives but can't reach you (a no-show)50% of the job totalYour sitter

For example, say you booked a sitter for Saturday at 6:00 p.m. Cancelling on Friday at 5:00 p.m. (25 hours before) is free. Cancelling on Friday at 7:00 p.m. (23 hours before) costs $20.

If plans change during a job

Talk with your sitter in the app first. If you need the Wyndy team, tap Get help on the job, or go to Me, then Help. If your sitter hasn't arrived, use the {Name} never arrived row on the job instead of cancelling, so the team knows what happened.

You can still cancel once the start time has passed: open the job and tap Cancel job at the bottom of its page. It's there until the job's scheduled end, as long as your sitter hasn't submitted their hours. A job cancelled after its start time is always a late cancellation, so the $20 fee applies.

If your sitter cancels

You're notified right away. If your sitter cancels within 24 hours of the start, you get a $10 Wyndy credit, which comes off your next booking automatically.

Sitters have their own rules for late cancellations, and repeated late cancellations can pause or suspend their account. See Cancelling and reliability.

See the policy for a job

Open any booked job and tap Cancellation policy. The screen says "Plans change, so we keep this simple and fair" and lists the rules above for you and for your sitter. From the same job you can also tap Questions about this charge? or Report a cancellation issue to reach the Wyndy team about a specific charge.

Questions

Do I need to give a reason?

No. The note is optional, but it helps the Wyndy team if there's ever a question about the cancellation.

I cancelled a posted job no one had booked. Was I charged?

No. A job without a booked sitter is always free to cancel, even within 24 hours of the start.

Can I change the time instead of cancelling?

Message your sitter first to see if the new time works for them. If the job needs to move to a different day, cancel it and post a new one, keeping the 24-hour rule in mind.

I think I was charged a cancellation fee by mistake

Open the job and tap Questions about this charge?, or write to the team from Me, then Help, and choose Payments.

Still stuck? Open the Wyndy app and go to Me, then Help, or contact the Wyndy team.
