Your first job as a sitter
What happens from the moment you're booked to the moment you're paid.
On this page
A family has booked you. This guide follows your first job from the booking notification to the money in your bank, with what to do and say at each step. The short version: get the details from the family before the day, tap End job when you leave, confirm your hours, and transfer your earnings when you're ready.
You're booked
You get a "You're booked!" notification with the family's name and the date. "If you're picked, the job is yours immediately", so there's nothing to accept. The job is now in your Bookings tab under Active, and the family can see you're booked.
-
Open the booking from the Bookings tab.
The booking now shows the full ADDRESS, which sitters only see once they're booked. Below it is the JOB SUMMARY: tasks, children, pets, other adults, any recent sickness, PARKING INSTRUCTIONS and MEETING SPOT, and the PAYMENT SUMMARY. -
Tap Get directions to plan your trip.
Choose Open in Maps, Open in Google Maps, Open in Waze or Copy Address. -
Tap Message and say hello.
Confirm the time and ask anything the job doesn't cover. You can message the family any time while the booking is active.
What to ask the family before the day
- A phone number for them and a second emergency contact.
- How to get in, and where to park if the job doesn't say.
- Allergies, medications and where any medicine is kept.
- The routine: meals, bath, bedtime, screen rules.
- When they expect to be home, and that they'll message if that changes.
- If you'll drive: where you're going and how car seats work.
Before the job
Wyndy reminds you as the job gets close. If you were booked well ahead, you get "You're on for {day}" a couple of days before. You also get a "Job Reminder" about two hours before the start. At the top of your Jobs tab, a reminder chip moves from "Upcoming job" to "Starting soon" to "Happening now".
At the job
-
Arrive a few minutes early.
Use the meeting spot from the job. Ten minutes with the family at the door is the best time to go over the plan, the kids' rooms, the first aid kit and the exits. -
Keep the family posted.
Send a quick message at the moments they'll care about: dinner done, kids asleep. If something goes wrong, call them, and call 911 first in an emergency. -
Tap End job when you leave.
It appears on the booking once the job has started. "Just tap End job when you're finished and confirm your start and end time."
Confirm your hours
On Confirm hours: "Double check your start and end time, submit your hours and get paid!" Set the START TIME and END TIME to when you actually started and finished, then tap Confirm hours. Pay is worked out by the minute at the job's hourly rate, so if the family came home 30 minutes late, include that time.
The next screen shows what happens next: "Parent will confirm hours", "Payment is processed", "You get paid!"
-
Leave a review of the family.
"Did you like working with {Parent}?" Your rating helps other sitters decide whether to apply to their jobs. -
Wait for the family to pay.
They get a "Time to pay" notification. They check your hours, add a tip and pay. If they don't, their card is charged automatically 24 hours after you submitted your hours.
Get paid
When the family pays, you get "{Parent} paid you!" with what you earned. The money goes to your Wyndy balance. Open Me, then Earnings to see it.
-
Check your Wyndy Balance.
It shows what's Available to transfer, your earnings this year and your completed jobs. Tap a job to see the rate times the hours, the tip and the total paid. -
Tap Transfer to Bank.
The first time, you set up your payout account: you confirm your identity and add tax details. "Payout transfers secured by Dots." -
Wait for the transfer.
Each transfer costs $1.50 and typically takes a few business days. You can transfer whenever you like.
A worked example
| Amount | |
|---|---|
| 4 hours at $20 an hour | $80 |
| Tip (15%, the amount the family's wrap-up suggests) | $12 |
| Earned, with a sitter subscription (no platform fee) | $92 |
| Transfer fee | $1.50 |
| Reaches your bank | $90.50 |
The family's service and processing fees don't come out of your pay. Without a subscription, a platform fee comes out of your earnings instead. Transfer after several jobs and you pay the $1.50 once for all of them. More in Getting paid.
Good to know
- If you have to leave a job that has already started, call the family first. Cancel job stays on the booking until it's completed, but cancelling after the start counts as a late cancellation, and the family is told to contact support if they need help right away.
- If the family cancels less than 24 hours before the start, you get the $20 cancellation fee. If they don't show up when you arrive, you're paid 50% of the job total.
- If you're paid but haven't set up your payout account yet, you'll get "You have funds waiting!" as a reminder.
- The family checks your hours before paying and can correct them, so submit the times you really worked.
Questions
I forgot to tap End job. What now?
Open the booking from the Bookings tab and tap End job, then set the real start and end time on Confirm hours. The family can't pay until you submit your hours.
When can I message the family?
Any time while you have an active booking with them. After the job, the chat stays open until 24 hours after the job's scheduled end, or longer if the family is a Wyndy member.
Where's my tip?
Tips are added when the family pays, and they show on that job in Earnings. All of the tip goes to you.
