About Karla

Hi! My name is Karla M, I’m very passionate about helping children learn, grow, and feel loved every step of the way. I earned my Associates in Arts degree and Child Care Worker's Certificate from James Sprunt Community College and then transferred to get my Bachelor of Science in Family and Community Services with a concentration in Child Development from East Carolina University. My education, combined with my passion for early childhood, has prepared me to provide children with a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where they can thrive. My journey in early childhood education began while I was attending ECU, where I worked at the Nancy Darden Child Development Center. This experience gave me the opportunity to work alongside experienced educators and build a strong foundation in child development and early learning. I completed my bachelor's degree online while continuing to pursue my passion for working with young children. I joined Sandcastle Childcare, where I began working with one-year-olds before transitioning to the three-year-old classroom. These experiences allowed me to support children through important stages of growth, helping them develop socially, emotionally, and academically in a nurturing and engaging environment. After graduating ECU, I was honored to step into the role of Lead Pre-K Teacher. During my time in this position, I planned meaningtul learning experiences, encouraged kindergarten readiness, and created a classroom where every child felt welcomed, supported, and excited to learn. Shortly afterward, I welcomed my beautiful baby boy into the world and made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom. During I was able to strengthened my understanding of child development from a parent's perspective and deepened my appreciation for the trust families place in their children's caregivers.
