Hello, my name is Leilani M, and I’m 22 years old from Chicago, IL. As a senior at Calumet College of St. Joseph, I’m eagerly looking forward to graduating this spring in May 2025. My life has been deeply enriched by my athletic background, especially through basketball, which I’ve loved since I was six. This sport has been my anchor, guiding me through the ups and downs of college life. Music holds a special place in my heart as well; I find immense joy in deejaying and forming connections with others through the universal language of music. It allows me to express myself and share joyful moments with those around me. What I cherish most is my ability to connect with children. I truly understand their enthusiasm for music and physical activity, which mirrors my passions. I strive to create a calming and nurturing environment where children feel safe and valued. Teaching them about self-love and self-understanding is incredibly important to me. I believe that instilling these qualities from a young age lays the foundation for them to grow into compassionate and wonderful individuals. About two years ago, I began working at a year-round STEAM-based camp, and it was there that I fell in love with the children I worked with. This experience reaffirmed my commitment to pursuing a career in childcare after I graduate. I view this role as a stepping stone that will not only provide me with invaluable experience in the field but also help me build a meaningful resume for my future endeavors.
