About Portia

I’m a proud mother of two, and caring for children has always been a meaningful part of my life. Being a mom has taught me patience, responsibility, flexibility, and the importance of creating a safe, loving, and encouraging environment where children feel comfortable being themselves. My experience with children began long before becoming a mother. I studied Elementary Education in college, giving me a foundation in child development, learning styles, classroom structure, and creating engaging experiences for children. As a teenager and throughout college, I also served as a church camp counselor through The Salvation Army. I supervised activities, encouraged positive behavior, provided guidance, and helped create a safe and welcoming environment for children. During COVID, I homeschooled my two children, creating daily routines, helping with lessons, supporting their individual learning needs, and finding creative ways to keep education engaging at home. I continue to expand my knowledge through reading and learning about child development, education, parenting, and different ways to support children as they grow. I also have professional experience in naturopathic medicine and wellness, which strengthened my communication skills, attention to detail, and understanding of individualized care and healthy routines. As a babysitter, I bring a nurturing, dependable, and responsible approach. I take the time to understand each child’s personality, interests, routines, and needs. Whether we’re reading, doing homework, creating crafts, playing outside, preparing snacks, or following a bedtime routine, I want children to feel safe, supported, and encouraged. I genuinely enjoy working with children and believe they learn best when they feel loved, respected, and engaged. My goal is to give parents peace of mind while providing their children with a safe, fun, educational, and caring experience.
