Hello, my name is Lucy, and I recently graduated from Reed College. In my free time, I love to play/write music, read really long books, seek out a delicious tasting cup of coffee, paint watercolors, and most of all, I adore cooking delicious dinners for members of my community. I got my start in childcare when I was 11 years old. I begged my mom to enroll me in a Red Cross Babysitting class even though the class was meant for folks 13+. I began my first babysitting gig not long after taking the class for a family with an infant that lived down my block. Since then, I have been a babysitter, an art teacher, a nanny for special needs children, and a nursery care provider for a local church. My love of children and child care has been with me my whole life as the eldest sibling to a wild set of three younger siblings. My mom loves to joke that I was born with a strong maternal instinct because when I first met my younger sister, I declared, "I am going to take care of you my whole life." I believe that children have so much to teach us "big kids," which is why my babysitting style emphasizes imaginative play and screen-free activities, while sneaking in some educational fun! I have a background in tutoring, and I am happy to help your child out with homework. I love the outdoors, and I feel very comfortable exploring nature with children. I believe in a pedagogy of childcare that helps children find and develop confidence in their independence.
