About Julie

I have extensive hands-on experience caring for children, both as a mother and as a caregiver for other families. I raised three boys as a single mother, which taught me the importance of patience, responsibility, organization, and the ability to handle the many demands that come with caring for children. Today, I am the proud grandmother of two boys, ages 3 years and 2 months. I currently care for my 3-year-old grandson, Layne, three days a week while his father works. I have also previously cared for a close friend’s three children while she worked in Pittsburgh. With my own three children, this sometimes meant having six children in my home, all under the age of 12. These experiences have given me a great deal of practical experience managing multiple children, keeping them safe and engaged, and making sure each child receives individual attention. I believe every child is special and unique and should be cared for in a way that recognizes and respects their individual personality, interests, and needs. I believe children should have plenty of opportunities to have fun, explore, play, and simply enjoy being children. At the same time, I believe learning and age-appropriate educational activities should be an important part of their day. While I recognize that technology is an important part of today's world, I do not believe children should rely solely on an iPad, computer, television, or cell phone for entertainment. I prefer to encourage hands-on activities, reading, creativity, outdoor play, conversation, and opportunities for children to learn through everyday experiences. Most importantly, I want the children in my care to feel safe, loved, respected, and comfortable being themselves. I would treat the children I care for with the same patience, attention, and care that I would want someone to provide for those I love the most.
