Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I am a retired teacher and speech-language pathologist (SLP) with 30 years of experience working with children from birth through age five. I also have professional nanny experience with several families and am seeking full- or part-time, long-term nanny employment. I am the youngest of seven children and grew up in North Dakota. My love of children began early—I became an aunt at age 12, and caring for children has been an important part of my life ever since. I am affectionately known as “the Fun Auntie” to my 16 nieces and nephews and many cousins! After graduating high school in 1989, I accepted my first live-in nanny position in Maryland, caring for an 18-month-old boy for 15 months. I have remained close with this family over the years, and they have truly become family to me. I graduated college in 1994 and began my career as a speech-language pathologist in schools. In 2004, I earned my master's degree in speech-language pathology and have since worked in schools and early childhood centers, supporting young children and their families. I believe children thrive in a loving, respectful, and nurturing environment with consistent boundaries. I appreciate the positive parenting principles of “Love and Logic” and believe in saying “yes” whenever it is safe and appropriate. For example, rather than saying, “No, we can't go to the park,” I might say, “YES! Let's go after lunch!” This gives children choices and a sense of control while maintaining healthy boundaries. I love reading, nature walks, scavenger hunts/geocaching, arts and crafts, running games, bubbles, swimming, and simply spending quality time with children.
