Hello! I’m Kendall, I am a current senior at Loyola University majoring in psychology with a passion for child psychology and development. I have been involved in childcare since I was 12 years old when I began babysitting, and continue working as a nanny today. Working with different familiesover the years has provided me with a deep understanding of children's needs and behavior. I have gained valuable experience working at a daycare and as an assistant teacher in an elementary school, and I have also worked with children that have special needs. I’m a longtime New Orleans resident with local references. I’m married with 3 adult sons, 3 grandchildren and 3 little dogs that are my “kids.” I have experience being a full-time caregiver and enjoy working with children and seniors—both see the world so uniquely, and encourage you to be in the moment. I like to read, listen to music, and take long nature walks. How I handle upset children: It depends on their age and why they're upset. I like breathing exercises; "Smell the flowers, blow out the candles." Keeping my voice soft and calm. Empathizing: "I can see that you're pretty upset right now. ____________ can be hard, sometimes." Then, offering an appropriate choice, "Would you like me to help you or do you just want me to sit nearby until you feel better?" Other times, redirecting can work: "I know you're missing your mom, would you like to make her a card or go on a discovery walk, so you can tell her all the cool things we saw when she gets home?" Babies usually just need singing and rocking.Things I like to do with children: Coloring! Dancing, scavenger hunts and pretending we’re animals to stretch and burn off energy. Arts and crafts, stickers, reading aloud or letting a child read to me. I welcome and encourage the use of web cameras, hidden or conspicuous. They can be inexpensive and you should have the peace of mind of knowing your child is safe and being cared for at all times.
