Seeking a caring and responsible nanny in Aptos, CA.
Pay: $19 - $30 per hour
Start Date: Next Week
Location: Aptos, CA
Job Description
Nanny / Tutor / Driver wanted.
I am searching for someone who can work with my children 2-3 days a week. I have 3 daughters: Emily 16 (a sophomore at Aptos High); Charlie (8th grader at Aptos Jr. High); and Casey 9 (4th grade at Rio Del Mar Elementary).
I travel a lot for work and am not around to give them rides to activities, and ensure their homework is completed and they are organized with school.
I am looking for someone who is extremely organized and can support tutoring at a basic high school academic level, particularly in math and science for my daughter Emily.
Activities would include:
- Picking up kids and giving them rides to activities
- Creating weekly homework plans
- Updating a master calendar with upcoming tests, projects, etc. that is shared with the kids and myself
- Reporting out to me on their homework submission, progress, and grades (report to be provided, but I’m open to a different format if you prefer)
- Light tutoring for homework and studying for tests in subjects where they need support (likely math and science for Emily)
- Ensuring kids read 30 mins per day.
Desired skill set/behaviors:
- Highly organized, attention to detail
- Excel literate (so we can track academic progress and share upcoming tests / projects)
- Academically inclined. I don’t need a subject matter expert tutor, but someone who can tutor up to high school level subjects for general students
o There are also a lot of great YouTube videos out there is you don’t remember a topic. This is what I have used when I’ve had to help them with a subject I don’t know
- Confident and safe driver (car needed; I will pay for gas)
- Ability to provide summaries on children and express needs, concerns, and areas of strength
- Reliable, patient and able to relate to children
About our family
The five of us live in Rio Del Mar and moved to Aptos just over 4 years ago from Stockton. We absolutely love it! However, we don’t have family around to help with the kids. The big gap in our life is helping our kids be organized and accountable in school.
• My husband Dave is a PE teacher in San Jose and usually gets home around 5:30-6:00. He LOVEs music and doing things as a family on Sundays.
• I (Ali) am a Sr. Director at E&J Gallo Winery and travel almost every week for a couple of days. I work a ton and don’t have the capacity to invest in my children’s academics in the way I would like to. My goal is to help them realize their potential and be good humans overall. I love tennis, running, traveling, and hanging out with my girls.
• Emily (turns 16 in January) is a ton of fun. She’s the lead singer in 2 bands and does extremely well in her English liberal arts type classes. She has ADHD and has historically struggled in math and science. She is very capable of grasping concepts but needs the most support getting organized and being accountable for turning her work in. She has a 504 plan at school that allows her to take tests alone and turn in assignments 1.5 x later than they are do for the rest of the students. I anticipate the job will spend the most time with Emily.
• Charlie (14) is very independent. She has a great, dry sense of humor. She’s on the quieter side at first but once she is comfortable, she’s a hoot. She is very smart and has historically gotten almost all A’s. This year she has had issues submitting things on time and sometimes waits until the last minute. I want to keep Charlie motivated because she has a lot of academic potential.
• Casey (9) is super sweet and has flair. Her nickname is “Happy”. She plays tennis, dances and sings around the house, and recently has gotten into “skin care.” She’s pretty on top of things, but I think she can be challenged a little bit more. She gets her homework done on her own, but I would like someone to review and provide her with feedback on how to make it even better (particularly with writing). She tests high within her grade in both math and English.
