About Xochitl

I am very passionate about art education and am well-versed in helping kids find creative outlets early in their life! I took one formal year of a child development class in high school, where I looked after kids from 7mo-5 years of age for a few hours every day for the entire year. I have also worked as a mentor for high school-aged students on the speech and debate/forensics team at my high school, in addition to looking after my cousins growing up. I have also taken a few child development classes at my alma mater, UW-Madison, focused on how children learn using art education. I volunteered last summer with a nonprofit in Wisconsin to create healthy breakfast menus for their summer program that feeds kids from 0-12 years of age. I also interned at another Wisconsin nonprofit that worked with K-12 schools to educate kids on civic engagement. All of this, combined with my entire community/friend group being educators (whether future professors or current teachers), makes me confident in my ability to work with and truly connect with kids. I would love to work around my schedule as a graduate student at the University of Chicago and am flexible about my start date!
